Data Sources & Third-Party Technologies
Full disclosure of the open-source software, geographic databases, and APIs used to power GEO MAP TOOLS.
Our Data Integrity Policy
In accordance with our EEAT (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) standards, we only list external providers and datasets that are actually utilized in our current software architecture. We do not claim affiliations or data access that does not exist.
OpenStreetMap (OSM)
Provides the global crowdsourced geographic dataset, road geometries, building footprints, and map tiles displayed in interactive map canvases.
Used as the foundational visual map layer for drawing parcels, viewing distance routes, plotting radius circles, and locating cities.
Licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL). Limitations: OSM is community-maintained; minor discrepancies in building boundaries or street names can occur in newly developed or sparsely mapped areas.
Nominatim
Search-by-name (forward geocoding) and coordinate-to-address (reverse geocoding) lookup engine.
Resolves user queries (e.g., “Paris” or “90210”) into latitude/longitude coordinates, and resolves GPS coordinates into cities in the What City Am I In? tool.
Nominatim interpolates address numbers along streets and respects OpenStreetMap administrative hierarchy. In unincorporated regions without a municipal city boundary, it identifies county or regional entities instead of a municipal city.
Turf.js
Advanced client-side geospatial analysis library utilizing spherical geodesy on the WGS 84 ellipsoid.
Calculates spherical polygon excess areas, perimeter lengths, 64-vertex geodesic circle boundaries, and point-in-polygon tests inside your browser without server requests.
Open source under the MIT License.
MapLibre GL JS
Open-source WebGL interactive mapping engine (fork of Mapbox GL JS under BSD 3-Clause). Powers smooth GPU-accelerated panning, zooming, marker placement, polygon drawing, and mobile touch interactions across all GeoMapTools utilities.
W3C Geolocation API
The standardized web API enabling browser access to device GPS, Wi-Fi, or cellular positioning. Strictly requires explicit user confirmation prior to disclosing coordinates. GeoMapTools processes these coordinates in ephemeral memory without recording them to any server database.
